An improvised patchwork of concentric squares composed of stepped triangles defined by contrasting colors: bright washed-out turquoise blue, deep orange and burgundy, and a yellow square in the center. Smaller fragments of turquoise, purple, floral, polka-dot, and diamond along the outer edges. On the backside, raw edges, thread tails and machine-stitched lines.

Statement from the Artist
This quilt came together from my desire to experiment with the "courthouse steps" form of the log cabin quilt. I tried not to have much of a plan beyond that, so that I would have to make improvised choices and would have to really look at the piece as it was coming together, and decide what I wanted to add to it each step of the way. The textiles include scraps of a friend's old coat, my old pyjama pants, a dress I wore so much that it fell apart, and some sheets that I overdyed once they became worn out. The thing I love best about making a quilt is how it always becomes something that I would never have actively chosen, but nonetheless love deeply.
